WHAT WE ACCEPT

  • Clean, gently used adult and children's clothing
  • Professional and business attire
  • Seasonal coats, jackets, and outerwear
  • New socks and underwear (packaged)
  • Shoes in good condition
  • Blankets, towels, and linens

WHAT WE CANNOT ACCEPT

  • Torn, stained, or damaged items
  • Furniture or large household goods
  • Electronics or appliances
  • Expired medications or medical supplies
  • Mattresses or pillows (health regulations)

Eligibility & Request Process

Who Can Receive Clothing

The Clothing Bank serves individuals and families in need throughout Delaware. You may access clothing through:

  • Referral from a social service agency, shelter, or case manager
  • Direct walk-in during operating hours (assessment on-site)
  • Church or faith community referral
  • Coordinated entry through Delaware 211

No documentation is required for basic clothing needs. For Family First Card registration, a photo ID is requested but not mandatory.

Family First Card Process

The Family First Card allows registered families to visit the Clothing Bank on a regular schedule.

A staff member will meet with you briefly to understand your family's needs and register you in our system.

Browse available clothing with assistance from volunteers. Families may visit once per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to get clothing?

No. While many clients come through agency referrals, walk-ins are welcome during operating hours. If you need clothing, come see us.

How often can I visit?

Registered Family First Card holders may visit once per month. Emergency clothing needs (e.g., fire, domestic violence displacement) are handled on a case-by-case basis regardless of prior visits.

Can agencies make bulk requests?

Yes. Social service agencies, shelters, and transitional housing programs can contact us to arrange bulk clothing distributions for their clients. Call (302) 652-8133 to coordinate.

Where are you located?

The Clothing Bank of Delaware is located at 22 N. Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. We are accessible by DART bus routes and have street parking available nearby.

How can I donate clothing?

Drop off clean, gently used clothing during operating hours at our Walnut Street location. For large donations (more than 5 bags), please call ahead so we can have volunteers ready to receive your items.
